In the town of Lahti, Kari resides, we connect every week through WhatsApp, side by side. Kari shares tales of the Lahti longwave transmitter, a historical site, now a museum, it once transmitted with splendor.

Towers high, reaching for the sky, broadcasting on 252 kHz, never shy. From 1927 till ’93, it served with pride, now a place where memories reside.

Our dear friend Kari, a loyal listener, tunes in every week to Radio Delta, a true winner. With various SDRs in Finland and sometimes in Sweden, he explores the airwaves, his passion unhidden.

A key player in Finnish Request, he takes part, sharing music that touches our hearts. Kari’s enthusiasm shines bright, his passion for radio, a guiding light.

We are excited to announce the addition of three new or improved programs: “5 Decades of Music,” “Radio Delta Goes DX,” and “Finnish Request.” These programs promise to bring you the best of music from different eras, exciting DX news, and a selection of requests from our listeners in Finland.

As part of our programming update, each show will have new jingles or jingles that are currently being created. These will be added in the coming weeks to enhance your listening experience.

Unfortunately, the power supply of the transmitter malfunctioned last week. We apologize for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your patience as we work on resolving this issue.

Today, I would like to share my recent experience of receiving Radio Blauwe Piraat, a radio station from the vicinity of Nieuwleusen, Netherlands. It was a special and nostalgic moment when I tuned in to their signal on the medium wave frequency of 765 kHz. It all began with a beautiful record from the era of offshore radio, played by the Les Leeds Orchestra and titled “Man of Action”. This music style immediately transported me back to the golden years of radio.

It was fascinating to learn that Radio Blauwe Piraat operates at a power output of 120 watts (480 watts PEP). With such strength, their signal could be received far and wide. The majority of the broadcast consisted of Dutch folk music, which added to the charm and uniqueness of Radio Blauwe Piraat. It took me on a journey through the rich cultural heritage of the Netherlands, showcasing the talent and passion of local musicians.

The nostalgia of the experience combined with the distinct sound of Radio Blauwe Piraat made it a truly memorable encounter. It served as a reminder of the power that radio holds in connecting communities, preserving traditions, and evoking emotions.

In the picturesque town of Rijssen, located in the east of the Netherlands, lives a remarkable man named William. Every week, he exchanges the mundane sounds of everyday life to immerse himself in the enchanting world of radio. With his faithful companions – the mediumwave and shortwave – he regularly experiences extraordinary adventures. It’s a Saturday evening, and William sits anxiously listening to his favorite stations on the mediumwave and shortwave. This evening is extra special because he is expecting a reception report that makes his heart beat faster. The radio is his window to the world, and every week, he is rewarded with a glimpse of the unknown.

In the winter months, the mediumwave comes alive, offering a fascinating DX experience. William can hear stations from Peru, the United States, and other far-off places. It’s as if the magic of radio takes him on a journey to exotic destinations without leaving his familiar armchair.Two years ago, William stumbled upon a rare gem – the radio broadcast of the legendary “Radio Veldwachter” from Alkmaar. He was so excited about this discovery that he proudly added the recording to his collection. It proves once again that radio is not just a passion but also a precious treasure full of memories.

William is overjoyed when Radio Delta plays old classics like “The Wallstreet Shuffle” by 10cc or “Up on the Catwalk” by The Simple Minds. These timeless songs take him back to special moments in his life and let him drift away in a sea of nostalgia. In addition to his radio adventures, William frequently explores the Kiwi SDRs to see how his own reception performs. It’s always exciting to discover how far the radio signal travels and what surprises the ether has in store for him. Listening to Ham radios remains a fascinating hobby for William. Recently, he even received a signal from ZL3RIK, a transmitter from Christchurch, New Zealand, using his AL1 loop antenna. It’s truly amazing how radio connections can unite us, even over long distances. William uses an NRD-535 HF receiver with an AL1 loop antenna and high-quality speakers to create an immersive sound. He values an optimal sound experience, allowing him to fully engage in his favorite radio programs.

Through WhatsApp, William regularly shares fun news with us, and we have built a warm and close connection. It’s wonderful to see how radio brings us together and fosters new friendships. At Radio Delta, we always strive to share and cherish these beautiful connections with our listeners. Besides his passion for radio, William has other interesting sides. He is a big fan of André Rieu, whom he enjoys watching live during his performances.

In the Netherlands, there are still many active radio stations on the medium wave, each with their unique names. In our studio, we often tune in to these radio stations, using the ICOM 7610 and a dipole antenna for shortwave reception. However, when we want to venture outside into nature to listen, we take along the ICOM 705 and a 20-meter wire antenna. And our trusty companion, an old German Shepherd, joins us with great enthusiasm to explore the outdoors and enjoy the radio broadcasts along with us.

Recently, we have captured recordings of various radio stations, each with its distinctive flavor and programming. One such station, Radio Noorderzon, takes us back in time with their unique selection of traditional Dutch folk music. We find it fascinating how they manage to transport us to a bygone era with their carefully curated playlist. Another station that captures our attention is Radio KJ. They specialize in playing hits from the 70s and 80s, creating in the early morning a nostalgic atmosphere that resonates with listeners of all ages. It’s thrilling to hear iconic songs from legendary artists as if they were being played live just for us.

When we venture outdoors with our ICOM 705 and 20-meter wire antenna, we become immersed in the beauty of nature while listening to these radio stations. Whether we’re sitting by a calm lake or hiking through a dense forest, the soothing melodies and informative discussions from the radio transport us to different worlds, enhancing our connection with the environment.

The world of medium wave radio in the Netherlands is a treasure trove of unique stations with captivating names and programming. Whether in the comfort of our studio or out in the embrace of nature, we thoroughly enjoy the experience of tuning in and exploring the diverse offerings of these radio stations. We are thrilled to share the exciting news of our recent test transmission on the shortwave frequencies. On August 13th and 14th, 2023, Radio Delta conducted a 24-hour test on the 12.075 kHz frequency in the 25-meter band. The response we received from listeners around the world was overwhelming, with reports coming in from Ukraine, USA, Finland, Spain, Italy, Greece, Brazil, Australia, and Austria.

Our aim during the test transmission was to assess the signal strength and reception quality of our shortwave broadcast. We were astonished to receive beautiful feedback from listeners as far as Ukraine, the USA, and Australia. These reports not only reaffirmed the global reach of our broadcast but also highlighted the impact of shortwave radio in connecting people across vast distances.

To provide you with a glimpse of the test transmission, we have compiled a series of videos showcasing the reception experience of some of our esteemed listeners. One of the standout reports came from John in Springfield, USA, who was able to follow our signal for an impressive 15 hours. His video captures the captivating quality of the reception during his extended listening session. Another avid listener, Manuel Mendez from NW Spain, also closely monitored our broadcast and was impressed by the signal quality, rating it 45444. He graciously shared a recording of his reception, which further validated the success of our test transmission. Furthermore, Alessandro from the vicinity of Florence, Italy, tuned in towards the end of our broadcast and commended the high-quality transmission with minimal fading or interference.

One of our most dedicated listeners during the test on 12.075 kHz was Kari from Lahti, Finland.
